Unit G Summary Question #1

1. How do we know if a graph has a horizontal asymptote? What are the three options?
Well there are three different ways to tell if a graph has a horizontal asymptote, these all have to do with the comparison between the degrees of the numerator and denominator. The first way we tell is if the degree in the denominator is bigger than the numerator's, then the asymptote would be y=0. Second, if they have the same degree, then the asymptote is the ratio of the coefficients. Lastly, if the degree on top is bigger then you have no horizontal asymptote to begin with.
